404 error | no excuse found

Yeah, I have no excuse for being away so long, but life just gets in the way.
On the other hand, this summer someone finally convinced me to, one day, not far, I’ll try surf. I’ll give it a try.

what it takes | remember to always love what you do

“Did you mom take you to dance lessons when you were younger? Did you wear the tutu that all little girls dream about? As you grew older, did you grow to love what you do so much that you decided that dancing is what you wanted to do for a living? Make sure that you know what you’re getting into. There are few people that are able to make a career out of dancing. Dancing is combination of art and sport. It isn’t enough to have natural talent, you have to be willing to constantly practice and learn. You may know one kind of dance, but there is always something new to learn.

Because they are doing physical activity all the time, dancers, like athletes, are prone to injuries and have to take excellent care of their bodies. For dancers that are involved in a company, the job isn’t a guaranteed thing. You may not get the part that you had wanted and there is competition among with that person who is always better, just like any other job. And just like any other job, a dancer never knows when their dance career will suddenly vanish: a company folds, career ending injury, car accident, etc. There may even be times when you might have to work for free.

So what is a dancer to do? Make sure that you understand the industry that you are entering to. In order to succeed, you have to be willing to put in the work. If you’re working with a dance company, make yourself indispensable and memorable. That means coming to practice on time, know your material, and sometimes that may also means being able to hold your tongue. You have to be able to constantly be able to push yourself. If you always do the same, then you can’t expect to have different results.

In the end, make sure that even through all the hard work that goes into the job, you have to find joy in what you do. Before anyone else, make sure that you are making yourself happy and satisfied with what you do. Dancing companies and show will come and go, but in the end, remember to always love what you do.

a single word

Okay, there’s a word I want to talk you about.

Mamihlapinatapai.

the wordless, yet meaningful look shared by two people who both desire to initiate something but are both reluctant to start.

From the Yanghan language of Tierra del Fuego, is considered the world’s most succinct word- and the hardest to translate.

Well, there is saudade
